THE TALES OF DWIPA (2019)
Adapted by Prajwala Dixit Directed by Santiago Guzmán, Prajwala Dixit Performed by Santiago Guzmán, Robyn Vivian, and Urmila Palit Free to all, every Saturday from July 13 to Aug 3, 2019: Bowring Park (near the main entrance/duck pond) - 11 AM Kenny's Pond Park (near the playground/park) - 1 PM Bannerman Park (near the splash pad) - 3 PM The Tales Of Dwipa weaves Indian and Canadian world's together by retelling the stories of Panchatantra by Pandit Vishnu Sharma. Passed down generationally for millennia in India and told here with a Canadian flavour, these stories still find meaning in today's world while adding our very own NL twist along the way. Though the animals have changed from the original monkeys, elephants, and lions to our local caribous, orcas, and wolves, the stories still creatively represent their broad range of original themes ranging from the migrant crisis, the refugee experience, and the power in being your true self. In this multicultural production, White Rooster Theatre brings together an Indian-Canadian playwright/director, a Mexican director/actor, a Bangladeshi actor, and two Newfoundlanders to create these wonder-filled short plays for children and their families. Each week will feature a new chapter in the Tales and along the way, audiences will learn some new words in Hindi, Kannada and Sanskrit as our stories progress. bringing the world to the feet of our youngest citizens! Presented free to the public, thanks to support from Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, City of St. John's Canada Summer Jobs. Special thanks to MUN's Dept of English and Metrobus for their vital contribution to our production. |
